Newborn beaten to death in mother’s arms, police say

(WISN/CNN) – Authorities say an infant in Wisconsin was the victim of a brutal beating that ultimately killed him.

Police responded to reports of a domestic violence situation at a home in Milwaukee shortly before 8 a.m. Wednesday.

12 News reports 2-month-old Jaquiron Dancer was being held in his mom’s arms when the suspect started hitting her and the boy.

Jaquiron was badly hurt in the beating and taken to a children’s hospital. He died from his injuries later that night.

“We do have a suspect in custody for that, it is gonna be reviewed at the district attorney’s office in the next coming days,” said Milwaukee Police Department Assistant Chief Steve Caballero. He would not say whether the suspect was the father of the baby.

“It’ll be reviewed in the next few days,” Caballero said.

Jaquiron’s mother was too distraught to speak to the news station, but shared photos of her baby, so that people can remember her son.

“She’s grieving. She’s very sad,” said Rev. Dan Quakkelaar. “You know, this is her little boy who was born not long ago, a preemie who was fighting and doing well and for her this is a huge tragedy.”

“You can tell from the picture that he was a beautiful boy and full of life and it’s hard to deal with when a life like that is lost and so tragically and so unnecessarily.”
