TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — A week after powerful Hurricane Ian struck Florida, forecasters are watching two other systems in the tropics, a tropical depression and the remnants of a tropical depression.
The National Hurricane Center said Tropical Depression Thirteen formed Thursday night near the ABC islands. It could become a tropical storm by Friday morning.
It is expected to become a hurricane by Saturday night as it approaches San Andres and Providencia Islands. It poses no threat to Florida, according to Storm Team 8 Meteorologist Leigh Spann.
The other system, Tropical Depression 12, dissapated on Thursday night.
Spann said the new depression should gradually strengthen in the Caribbean and may hit Central America as a Category 1 hurricane.
A Hurricane Watch is in effect for:
San Andres, Providencia, and Santa Catalina Islands, Colombia
A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for:
Coast of Colombia from Riohacha eastward to the Colombia/Venezuela border.
The next named storms of the 2022 Atlantic hurricane season will be Julia and Karl.
