TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — This new experience at ZooTampa is “shore” to grab your attention!

Stingray Shores is an interactive encounter that allows visitors to get into the 30,000-gallon stingray touch pool and learn more about them.

“These animals are super friendly and they’ll come right up to you,” ZooTampa Supervisor of Aquatics and Life Support Katie King said. “They’re not afraid of you at all.”

While the stingrays at ZooTampa do have barbs, King said they are much like fingernails and can be trimmed off for safety.

“I hope a lot of the stigma gets taken away from stingrays and people understand how cool they are and how important they are to our environment,” she said.

The special experience allows guests to be in the water for 20 minutes.

A wetsuit and water shoes are provided and make sure you bring a swimsuit to wear underneath the suit.

The In-Water Stingray Encounter is not included with ZooTampa’s general admission tickets.

Per ZooTampa’s website, the experience costs $59.99 and can be booked online.
