NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — Norfolk police are investigating a head-on crash at the intersection of Berkley Avenue and Wilson Road. According to police, the crash happened just after 8:30 p.m. Thursday and involved two vehicles and a pedestrian. Police say all people involved suffered non life-threatening injuries.
According to police, a preliminary investigation revealed a van was traveling eastbound on Berkley Avenue when it suddenly veered into the westbound lanes and struck a stopped Mercedes Benz head-on.
As a result of the crash, the Mercedes was pushed backwards and ultimately struck two pedestrians walking on the sidewalk.
The driver of the van, a 30-year-old man, and both occupants in the Mercedes, a 57-year-old man and a 66-year-old woman, were all taken to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital for treatment of their injuries.
One of the pedestrians, a 41-year-old woman, was also taken to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. The other pedestrian left the scene before police arrived.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation and charges are pending.
The driver of the van is a City of Norfolk employee and the van is a City of Norfolk vehicle assigned to the Department of Parks, Recreation and Open Space.
