GONZALES, La. (WFLA) — A Louisiana mother could lose custody of her children after police say her 2-year-old child ate crystal meth.

Detectives with the Gonzales Police Department responded to a call on Sunday night about a juvenile cruelty case at a local hospital.

Investigators say Tyler Dauzat, 21, had arrived at the hospital with her 2-year-old child who was exhibiting extreme erratic behavior.

Dauzet told doctors that she did not know what was causing this behavior.

An ER doctor conducted a blood screen on the child and said the blood contained a significant quantity of methamphetamine. Doctors examined the child and determined that the child ingested the drug.

Doctors stabilized the child, who is now being cared for in the pediatric unit of another hospital.

Police say Dauzet was uncooperative with doctors and workers with the Louisiana Department of Children and Family Services and would not give them an explanation about how the child came into contact with the meth.

Dauzet later allegedly admitted to Gonzales Police Department investigators that she had powder meth in her purse and her child had been left alone in a hotel room with her purse.

Dauzat was arrested on charges of negligent injuring, cruelty to juveniles, illegal use of CDS in the presence of a juvenile and improper supervision of a minor. Police say more charges could be filed against her.

The Louisiana Department of Children and Family Services is deciding if Dauzat will keep custody of her children, ages 2 and 4.WHAT OTHERS ARE CLICKING ON RIGHT NOW:
