BIG BEAVER, Pa. (AP) – Autopsy results are pending on the body of a Florida man found dead at the bottom of a Pennsylvania hotel’s swimming pool hours after he was reported missing.
Investigators say 70-year-old John Robert Pope had a number of medical conditions and may have died naturally or drowned before his body was found Friday night at the Park Inn in Big Beaver. That’s about 35 miles northwest of Pittsburgh.
State police say the man was visiting family, but didn’t say where in Florida he was from.
Pope was reported missing after he was last seen near the pool about 9:30 a.m. Friday. His body wasn’t found in the pool until after it was searched that evening.
Police say the water was cloudy with visibility of about 4 feet.
