MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. (WFLA) — Miami-Dade Fire Rescue (MDFR) responded to a call of a boater in need of assistance.

MDFR Fireboat was dispatched, upon arrival they observed the owner of a sailboat holding on to the mast of his vessel as he was trying to prevent the boat from sustaining damage under the West Venetian bridge.

The sailboat had been pushed by a strong current under the bridge but the mast was preventing it from completely going under the bridge.

The man was assisted by MDFR fireboat crew and was brought to safety. The mast had to be released in order to free the boat.

MDFR reminds travelers to have a navigation plan, and to always make sure that your equipment is in order. MDFR recommends everyone onboard to have access to a life jacket.
