ZEPHYRHILLS, Fla. (WFLA) — The Pasco County Sheriff’s Office believes the owners of Jordan’s Bar-B-Que in Zephyrhills were defending their business by shooting a man who approached the stand and demanded money.

Around 3:30 Thursday afternoon, an unknown Hispanic male approached the owners of the family-run business on Eiland Boulevard and demanded money. According to witnesses, the man had a 6-8 inch sharp spike in his pocket.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, the father yelled to his son, who pulled out his gun and shot the man. He later died at the hospital.

At a news conference Thursday night, Pasco County Sheriff Chris Nocco said he believes the shooter was in the right.

“He’s not only defending himself, thinking he’s getting robbed, but he’s defending his own father,” said Sheriff Nocco.

The local business is popular in the area and the Sheriff wants people to ask themselves- what would you do?

“Put yourself in the shoes of this family who has a small business and they’re working hard trying to keep their family going…They did what they had to do. They protected themselves. Every indication, this is a case of self-defense,” said Sheriff Nocco.

As of Friday morning, the Sheriff has not released the name of the shooter and we’re told he’s not expected to face any charges.

The Sheriff’s Office has not identified the man who was shot dead either. According to the Sheriff’s Office, he did not have an ID on him.
