TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) – A young man was taken into custody after he confessed to sexual battery on a student at the University of South Florida Tampa campus, according to USF Police.
Sunday afternoon USF Police did a welfare check on a 17-year-old residential student after her mother had called them. The woman said that her daughter had told her about a sexual battery incident.
USF Police detectives investigated the report. The preliminary investigation revealed that Sean McDonald, 18, a lifeguard at Fort De Soto and not a student at USF, was visiting with some friends on campus when the incident took place. McDonald and the victim knew each other, police said.
Detectives found and interviewed McDonald. He confessed to the sexual battery. While taking him under arrest, police found that he had cocaine in his possession.
He was charged with sexual battery and drug possession. He was taken to the Orient Road jail and released after paying $17,000 bond.
McDonald is from South Tampa. He also worked as a lifeguard at South Tampa YMCA.
