PALM HARBOR, Fla. (WFLA) — Tens of thousands of active swimmers will participate in The World’s Largest Swim Lesson (WLSL) on Friday to try and break the current Guinness World Record.
32,450 participants set the current Guinness World Record. The participants represent 13 different countries within five continents.
The “Be Water Smart from the Start” safety around the world campaign is promoting this event at over 480 locations, one official host being our own Greater Palm Harbor YMCA. The event will take place on Friday, June 24 beginning at 10 a.m.
Other YMCA of the Suncoast locations are participating as well, and said to call to verify all start times.
According to the YMCA of the Suncoast, research shows kids who participate in formal swim lessons can reduce the risk of drowning by 88 percent among children ages 1 to 4.
