TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) —- A glitch caused several thousand TECO customers who paid their bills Sunday or Monday to be overcharged.

TECO Spokeswoman Cherrie Jacobs tells 8 On Your Side several thousand customers who used the e-bill system were affected. The problem occurred when the e-bill vendor suffered a glitch during a technology upgrade over the weekend.

The glitch caused payments for the previous 12 months to be processed at the same time.

Jacobs says TECO is working with the vendor and the banks of customers to resolve the issue and reimburse customers. The reimbursements will include overdraft fees.

TECO hopes to reimburse customers by Tuesday.

Affected customers will not be charged late fees or have their service disconnected.
