Finding help for those with mental illness isn’t always easy. A Tampa Bay area mom figured that out the hard way when her son starting acting differently. At first she thought it might be related to the roller coaster of raising a teenager that many parents face, but she soon realized it was much more serious.
“What the doctor explained to me that what was happening to Aaron was that he was having a psychotic break and that he was bipolar,” said Pamela Robinson the founder of Aaron’s House.
Robinson founded the 501c3 after losing her son who suffered most of his adult life with the disorder. She explained that treatment is usually lifelong and often involves a combination of medications and psychotherapy.
“At Aaron’s house we want to show that compassion we want to be able to help and reach caregivers and let them know they are not alone,” said Robinson.
Robinson’s non-profit brings mental health professionals and families together for support and guidance to navigate what can be a very difficult road for caregivers and patients alike.
If you would like to become involved with Aaron’s House it’s open to the public and has several meet ups throughout the year including a huge fundraiser happening in May on Rocky Point in Tampa.
