SPRING HILL, Fla. (WFLA) — Deputies are investigating possible old military munition in Spring Hill.

According to the sheriff’s office, a resident was digging on Oakridge Drive and found the object Monday evening. That person then called the sheriff’s office.

The bomb squad from the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office was called to the scene to remove or neutralize the object, but bomb squad equipment wasn’t able to handle the munition.

It was too dense for their x-ray and military-grade equipment is needed.

A group from MacDill Air Force Base arrived to the scene and took the munition with them.

According to a spokesman, the munition is likely from the Civil War era.

No homes were evacuated.
