Experts are reporting a rising trend of women entering the world of franchising.  Female owned businesses now account for nearly 40% of all privately held firms.

Before you quit your day job there is a way to find out for sure if you’re cut out to work for yourself.

Clearwater mom Maureen Parke used FranNet before making the decision do buy into the Cookie Cutters franchise.  The idea was born out of necessity.

“Our son has difficulties getting haircuts. We where just unhappy with the choices we had and I said we should have a cookie cutters around here.”said Parke.

Parke admits taking the leap of faith wasn’t an easy decision.

“It’s scary. Stepping into something you don’t know about is scary.”, said Parke.

Parke works alongside her husband in running the franchise that makes it fun for little ones to get their hair cut.  Her location nestled in a busy shopping plaza on Gulf to Bay Blvd. in Clearwater, FL. is doing well.

Park is not alone, more women are getting into the franchise business.

“One lady bought a painting franchise – where you pain homes – she’s a great performer in that area – it could be a senior service – a recruiting business – and you a bricks and mortar no you don’t need bricks and mortar. That’s a misconception and you don’t have to be in food.” said Pat Deering of FranNet.

Deering herself is a franchisee who bought into the franchise FranNet to work for herself.

She explained that not every franchise requires a brick and mortar location, many allow women to work from home.

Just like a job owning a franchise can be demanding but once it’s up and running Maureen Parke explains she’s glad she took the leap of faith.
