Troopers aim to make roads safer for cyclists, pedestrians in Bradenton

Florida Highway Patrol troopers will be cracking down on those who are driving carelessly and putting pedestrians and bicyclists at risk in Bradenton.

Operation P.E.D.S. (pedestrian education and driver safety) will happen in the area of Cortez Road West and 26th Street West on Monday from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.

Just this year in Manatee County, close to 100 people have been hit while walking or biking and the Florida Highway Patrol is looking to change those statistics.

Troopers will look for drivers breaking the law or being a hazard to those on foot.

They’ll also give safety information to pedestrians and bicyclists as well as give out bike headlights and taillights to those in need.

A reminder to drivers, make sure you’re doing your part.
