TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — A 13-year-old student is facing felony charges after Manatee County detectives say he threatened to blow up Buffalo Creek Middle School on Feb. 28.
The Manatee County Sheriff’s Office said school administrators learned about the threat made in a Snapchat group by a student using a fake name.
The message said, “This is a warning tomorrow I will blow Buffalo Creek Middle School up.”
The student also sent a photo of a firearm and three magazines in the chat, per the sheriff’s office.
An investigation led the sheriff’s office to a home in Parrish, where the identity of the student was confirmed as an 8th grader at the school.
During a search of the home, deputies found no weapons or explosive equipment, detectives said.
The student reportedly confessed to sending the messages when interviewed by investigators.
He faces a 2nd-degree felony charge of false report of a bomb.
The case remains under investigation according to the sheriff’s office.
