MANATEE COUNTY, Fla. (WFLA) – Parts of US Highway 41 in Manatee County were shut down this afternoon following a shooting that injured a bystander.
The sheriff’s office confirmed to News Channel 8 that people in two cars were shooting at each other when a female bystander was shot in the head. She was taken to Blake Medical Center in stable condition.
Bill Cross works at Manasota Flooring at the intersection where the woman was shot.
“All of a sudden, we hear gunshots. It sounded like she said, a motorcycle. Didn’t think much of it until we saw all the cops coming by…Everybody running over there. They were stopping traffic. It became pretty bizarre over there,” Cross said.
Deputies are still actively looking for the suspects involved in the shooting since they fled the scene. One car went northbound and the other went eastbound around 26th Avenue West, according to deputies.
Randy Warren with the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office wants to see these people brought to justice.
“These are innocent people that have nothing to do with this argument between these guys with guns. And they think they can just drive down the street and start firing like they’re in some movie,” Warren said.
Anyone with information on this case is asked to contact the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office at (941) 747-3011
