TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Two people have died, and four, including children, were hospitalized in critical condition after a head-on collision in Manatee County on Wednesday. Another person had serious injuries.

The crash happened just before 2 a.m. at the intersection of State Road 70 and Sugar Bowl Road in Myakka City.

The Florida Highway Patrol said a sedan carrying two adults and three children was heading west on State Road 70 when it crossed into the opposing lane of travel and struck the front end of a car.

Both drivers, a 38-year-old man from Bradenton, and a 26-year-old Sarasota man, died.

Three passengers in the first car, a woman, age 31, and three girls, ages 5, 7, and 12, were rushed to the hospital in critical condition.

The passenger in the other car, a 31-year-old Bradenton man, suffered serious injuries and was also taken to the hospital.

The Highway Patrol said the crash remains under investigation.
