Juuls are favorite vaping item for teens, easily concealed

Say goodbye to the way people “vaped” last year. That’s so 2017!

There’s a new kid in town and it’s called a “Juul.”

Seminole High sophomore Chase Wiley said he sees students Juuling all the time.

“Sometimes you walk into the bathroom. There’s a group of people and look at you weird, to try and ya know, use the restroom, and it’s just crazy,” he said.

Vapes of years gone by spewed clouds of vapor into the air, or they were bulky.

“So now they’re back down from this size to this size, it’s a big, big difference,” said Leo Calzadilla, owner of Purple Haze as he showed the compact nature of a Juul.

Juuls actually plug into a laptop or any USB port to charge up their battery.

You pop on a pod, and puff away.

“It flies off the shelf,” said Calzadilla.

He explained that Juuls come with a pre-set, five percent nicotine content. That’s the ingredient that can get you hooked. He won’t sell to anyone under 18.

“Definitely not. This is not meant for a 12-year-old, not a 13-year-old, not a 14-year-old,” he insisted.

Young adults are getting Juul products and using them in schools. They are small, easy to conceal and are very popular.

Tuesday at 5 p.m., see how they work and how students are buying them, even with age restrictions in place.
