More details are coming out on the mass shooting that happened at the Jacksonville Landing on Sunday.
Two innocent lives were taken and close to a dozen others were injured.
One of those victims, Timothy Anselimo, is from the Tampa Bay area.
His mother, Sujeil Lopez, frantically drove to Jacksonville from Tampa. She worries her son will never be the same.
“It took me three hours to get here and with no information other than what the news was saying that there was already two fatalities and not knowing if it was my son was intense,” said Lopez.
Timothy Anselimo, 26, is known in the gaming world as O’Larry.
He went to Hillsborough Community College and now is a gaming professional. Anselimo’s half-brother was watching him live on Sunday when the first shots rang out.
“He called Tim. He called my son and the first time he didn’t answer. The second time Tim answered and he said, ‘Tim, I heard something that sounded like shots’ and he said, ‘I was shot, tell my mother I love her’ and phone went dead and that’s the call I got,” said Lopez.
It was absolute horror for Lopez, but nothing in comparison to what she says her son went through.
“He tried to go out of a back door. Him and his friend who was not shot went to the back door. My son was shot twice. He fell, he had to jump over the fence and when he got up to leave that is when he got shot the third time,” said Lopez.
Anselimo was shot twice in his primary gaming hand and doesn’t know if he’ll be able to play again.
“He’s very stressed. He is hurt. He is sad. He is depressed. He just said before he went into surgery he can’t believe this happened to him,” said Lopez.
Anselimo had surgery on Monday. He plans to get back to Tampa when he’s released from UF Health.
