A Hernando County commissioner is facing prostitution charges stemming from an incident in February.
Nick Nicholson, 71, was arrested Thursday for operating a location for the purpose of lewdness, assignation or prostitution and purchasing services from any person engaged in prostitution, according to the sheriff’s office.
In February, deputies responded to a domestic disturbance at Nicholson’s home in the 4500 block of Tiburon Ave. in Spring Hill.
Deputies said Kendel and Valerie Surette had started arguing and Kendel threw a screwdriver that hit her in the face.
Deputies believe the couple was under the influence of an unknown substance, noting that the couple both had red, glassy eyes and slurred speech when officers arrived at the home.
Kendel Surette was arrested for domestic battery.
Through the course of the investigation, the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office learned of more criminal activity that occurred at the home. Nicholson placed under arrest on Thursday. The agency is expected to release more details regarding the case on Thursday at 4 p.m.
The commissioner was booked into the Hernando County Jail on a $3,000 bond.
