A grenade-like device, that is possibly a replica, was found in the backpack of a Hernando County man on Friday.

Hernando County deputies were called to the home of Jason Taylor at the request of probation and parole on Thursday.

Taylor’s probation officer believed he possibly in possession of firearms and/or explosive devices.

Deputies arrived to Taylor’s residence and he was not home. The probation officer, along with deputies, were not able to find any contraband.

On Friday, just before 11 a.m., a deputy spotted Taylor walking in the area of the Family Dollar, located on Spring Hill Drive.

During the encounter, the deputy requested to look in Taylor’s backpack.

The deputy located a suspicious device, which appeared to be a grenade of some sort.

Deputies located a knife on Taylor’s person as well.

The Citrus County Bomb Squad was called in to help with the device.

Currently, indications are that the device is a replica.

The sheriff’s office says further testing is completed by bomb technicians, that is unconfirmed.

Taylor was arrested for carrying a concealed weapon and violation of probation.

He was taken to the Hernando County Detention Center without incident.
