ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (WFLA) — A chef in St. Pete has been inspiring others while running her own food truck.
Anna Cerney has been a chef for around ten years and operates the Def Burger food truck.
News Channel 8’s Brianda Villegas sat down with Anna and her father, Brian Cerney, who is also her interpreter, to find out more about their mission.
“We had it in the back of our minds that the food truck was a possibility,” Anna Cerney said. “When we found the difficulty of running a restaurant, that actually became the first step.”
Def Burger has been open for more than two years and is known for their slaw, which is a delicious addition to their signature burger.
Customers place their orders by simply filling out and circling options on a paper menu.
“We try to reduce the barriers to communication here as much as possible,” Anna said.
The local spot also serves sandwiches, fried pickles, French fries, wings, quesadillas, and fish tacos.
“I see that hearing people and deaf people are equal, the opportunities need to be equal as best as possible,” Anna said. “We are both equally human and so I think we can all be successful in our own ways.”
Def Burger is located at 54th Avenue North. The food truck is open Monday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
