Crystal River man charged with shooting girlfriend, forcing her to go to ATM

CITRUS COUNTY, Fla. (WFLA) – A Crystal River man was charged Saturday with shooting his girlfriend in the stomach, tying her up and taking her to an ATM. Matthew Cooper, 45, is charged with attempted felony murder, kidnapping, robbery with a firearm, tampering with a witness, three counts of grand theft, aggravated domestic battery and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Cooper removed his girlfriend’s cash while at the ATM, took her to their home and left her there. He left the scene in her white Hummer, deputies said.

Deputies later found Cooper and arrested him. The victim is recovering in a hospital.
