CITRUS COUNTY, Fla. (WFLA) — An oil spill on Tuesday caused a road closure in Crystal River, according to the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office.
A “large hydraulic oil spill” covered parts of the westbound lanes of Highway 44 between Rock Crusher Road and Highway 19, according to deputies. The spill happened at about noon.
Oil was puddled at three intersections: Highway 44 and Norvell Bryant Highway, Highway 44 and Turkey Oak Drive, and Highway 44 and Highway 19, deputies said.
“The oil is slippery making driving conditions worse than driving on ice,” the sheriff’s office said in a Facebook post.
Deputies urged driver’s to avoid the area while the spill is cleaned up.
