With warmer temperatures and gorgeous weather, kids are enjoying spending time outside. Some Tampa Bay area pediatricians tell 8 On Your Side this is the time of the year they see more than just illnesses.

Doctors say this is the time of year they see a lot of broken bones, cuts and bruises.

Dr. Lou Romig with After Hours Pediatrics says other than the usual viruses that make the rounds this time of year, she is seeing some kids coming in with lacerations and fractures.

This is also the time of year where everyone wants to be in the pool or go to the beach! That means doctors see a lot of what they call, submersion injuries, which is what used to be known as near drownings. It’s a good time for parents to go over water safety with your kids as we near into summer.

In Polk County, Dr. Rachel Ray is seeing a lot of children with adenovirus and upset stomachs. She says some of the patients have bad diarrhea cases caused by the adenovirus, which is uncommon. Adenovirus usually causes fever and sore throats, along with pink eye. She advises that children with this stay away from greasy and spicy foods, and to treat symptoms as they occur. Of course, drink lots of fluids, too she says!

In Pinellas County, pediatricians are still just seeing the run of the mill coughs, colds and congestion.
