Last month, Margaret Crawford turned to 8 On Your Side claiming Southwest Airlines lost her mother’s prosthetic foot.
In March, Crawford flew from Tampa to Belize to give her mother Minnie a new prosthetic foot. The prosthetic her mom was using had disintegrated and was duct taped together.
Crawford made it to Belize, but the airline lost her luggage for two weeks.
With no money for another flight and no help from Southwest, Crawford turned to us out of desperation. She said the foot Minnie was wearing was falling apart and she worried her mother would fall.
“If she would’ve fallen she would not have recovered, not at 97,” said Crawford.
After watching our report, Paul Weott with the Orthotic and Prosthetic Center showed up to Crawford’s house with a $2,500 check.
“Oh my goodness they gave me $2,500,” said Crawford.
Crawford was in Belize to see her mom dance and sing with joy after getting her new foot. Her mother is getting around just fine and can’t stop smiling.
“She put it on and started walking. It was a relief, I can still see her smiling. She was happy,” said Crawford. “Paul, Channel 8, thank you thank you thank you from the bottom of my heart, from my mother’s heart, from my whole family, we are forever grateful.”
After our story aired several times, Southwest called Crawford and agreed to give her a full refund for her flight.
