The Hernando County Sheriff’s Office removed dozens of cats and dogs from a woman’s home on Thursday.
The animals were living at a property in the 4300 block of Neff Lake Road in Brooksville.
According to a news release, county officials had been working with 71-year-old Carol Allard for the past few months to bring her home up to code. When she didn’t meet the requirements, the animals were removed from her home.
A total of 56 dogs and 23 cats are now in the care of Hernando County Animal Services. Four cats went to various rescues and two feral cats escaped capture and are still at the home. Once they are caught, they will go to Hernando County Animal Services for the shelter’s catch, neuter, and release (CNR) program.
The county is working with Allard to surrender the animals that were removed from her property. If she does not surrender the animals, a petition will be filed to ask a judge to permanently remove the animals from her custody.
The sheriff’s office said no charges will be filed.
