BROOKSVILLE, Fla. (WFLA) – Twenty-one Labrador retrievers were seized from a Brooksville kennel this week.

According to the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office, on Sunday, animal enforcement officers were sent to conduct a mandatory kennel inspection at Blackrock Kennels, owned by Joe Cox.

The kennel is located at 12429 Ponce De Leon Boulevard.

During the inspection, officers noted that the dogs, all Labrador retrievers, were not being cared for properly and were living in deplorable conditions.

Two dogs that appeared to be in distress were immediately removed from the property and taken to Hernando County Animal Services.

Deputies and animal enforcement officers sought a court order to remove the remaining dogs from the property.

The remaining 19 dogs were seized on Friday.

All of the dogs are now being cared for by a veterinarian at Hernando County Animal Services.

The investigation is still active.
