TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) – Tampa Bay Area drivers can expect to see more law enforcement on the roads starting today.
The Florida Highway Patrol is revitalizing the Arrive Alive campaign. FHP says since 2014 the numbers of car crashes with serious injuries has increased substantially. In fact, fatal accidents jumped nearly 18 percent from 2014 to 2015.
FHP will be working with other Tampa Bay area law enforcement agencies to ensure this works to reduce the risk of serious roadway accidents.
While there will still be enforcement, FHP says they will be using different tactics in this new effort. They will be hitting different hotspot areas in Tampa Bay and will be patrolling in 15-minute increments at these hotspot locations throughout the day.
Distracted driving is one of the main issues they see on a day-to-day basis. Other than texting while driving, and speeding they also see many drivers running red lights and not obeying simple traffic laws.
Their hope is to reduce the risk of serious roadway accidents in Tampa Bay. The new Arrive Alive campaign starts Tuesday, January 17 and will be an ongoing campaign as of now.
