TAMPA, FL (WFLA) — There are countless ways to get creative and cut down on time in the kitchen. Marisa Langford, blogger for Tampa Mama, is a busy Seminole Heights mom with four kids and has hacks in her back pocket at all times.

“These hacks can save you even a couple minutes in the morning or before a party,” Langford said. “That makes a big difference when you’re running around trying to get ready.”

Here are some of the kitchen hacks she recommends:

Egg in a cup: Spray non-stick spray in a ceramic coffee cup. Crack one or two eggs into the cup. Stir egg and add milk if desired. Put cup in microwave for one minute. Take the cup out and the egg easily slides onto your plate. Eat by itself or on a sandwich!

Waffle-iron hash browns: Spray the waffle iron with non-stick spray. Add hash browns and cook. This makes perfectly browned potatoes and an easy clean up.

Homemade ice cream sandwiches: Langford says this is a great dessert for when you have company. Take a small ice cream container and put it sideways on a cutting board. Use a serrated knife (Langford puts the knife under hot water first) and cut through the container to slice ice cream. You end up with perfectly shaped ice cream circles to put between cookies.

Citrus fruit: Maybe you’re making a margarita or lemonade. Pop the citrus in the microwave for thirty seconds. When you take it out it will be much easier to squeeze and get all the juices.

Boiling water: Langford puts a wood spoon over a boiling pot. That helps it not boil over.

Keep bananas fresh longer: Put saran wrap on the stem – helps them last.

Cut cake using dental floss: Try cutting a cake with non-scented floss.

Get rid of garlic smell on your hands: Langford loves this hack. Wash your hands like normal. Grab scope and rinse with that. Your hands smell great.
