(WOOD) — Millions of smoke detectors have been recalled over concerns they may not alert people to a fire or carbon monoxide in the home.
The recall involves about 3.6 million Kidde NightHawk talking combo smoke/CO alarms with model number KN-COSM-IB. They were manufactured between June 1, 2004 and Dec. 31, 2010.
The company says the alarms might not chirp when it reaches its seven year end of life if the batteries are replaced — leading people to believe it’s still working.
Kidde has received eight reports involving the recalled alarms, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. No injuries have been reported.
The recalled alarms were sold at electrical distributors and home centers nationwide and online at Amazon.com from June 2004 through December 2010.
Those who own the recalled models should stop using them immediately and call Kidde at 855-239-0490 for a free replacement alarm or discount on a new alarm depending on the date of manufacture.
