BATTLE CREEK, Mich. (WOOD) — The Kellogg Company is voluntarily recalling one of its cereals which may be tainted with Salmonella.
The recall involves Kellogg’s Honey Smacks cereal with the best if used by dates of June 14, 2018 through June 14, 2019. The date information can be found on the top of the box.
The recalled food also contains the following package information:
15.3 oz. package | UPC code: 3800039103 (located on bottom of box)
23 oz. package | UPC code: 3800014810 (located on bottom of box)
The recalled cereal was distributed nationwide as well as in some areas of Costa Rica, Guatemala, Mexico, the Carribbean, Guam, Tahiti and Saipan.
The Battle Creek-based company says it immediately launched an investigation with the third-party manufacturer who produces Honey Smacks after learning about reported illnesses from the FDA and CDC.
Salmonella can cause fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain and typically lasts four to seven days. In rare cases, Salmonella can get into the bloodstream and cause severe illness and sometimes deadly infections in young children, elderly people and others with weakened immune systems.
