Investigation into what sparked Safety Harbor fire

SAFETY HARBOR, FL (WFLA) — Investigators with the State Fire Marshals Office will head to Safety Harbor Wednesday to try to determine what sparked a house fire.

The fire broke out Tuesday around 5 p.m. on 3rd St N. Before the first crews arrived, a quick-thinking 17-year-old rushed inside the house and pulled his step-grandfather to safety.

Gino Marino tells News Channel 8 he found his grandfather on a bedroom floor, gasping for air. Marino dragged him outside to safety before the flames consumed the home.

Neighbors reported hearing several small explosions during the fire, possibly from propane of acetylene torch tanks.

The wood frame house has been declared a total loss.
