Colin Kroll, the CEO and co-founder of the popular app HQ Trivia, has died at the age of 35, several reports say.
TMZ first reported the news, saying Kroll died of an apparent drug overdose early Sunday morning. According to TMZ, Kroll’s girlfriend called police overnight and asked for a welfare check after she couldn’t get in touch with him.
The New York Daily News says police found him unconscious in his SoHo apartment with drug paraphernalia around him.
Police sources tell TMZ they believe cocaine and heroin were the drugs involved.
Kroll co-founded the popular HQ Trivia app with Rus Yusupov. The free trivia game became an overnight sensation late last year. It gives players a chance to win part of a jackpot prize by answering 12 questions.
Kroll also co-founded Vine, an app that allowed users to upload and share six-second videos. The app helped several popular users gain fame and launch Hollywood careers.
