How to apply for Hurricane Hermine-related federal aid

(WFLA) – President Barack Obama signed a disaster declaration Wednesday for parts of Florida impacted by Hurricane Hermine. The president “declared a major disaster exists in the State of Florida,” a White House spokesperson said in a press release.

The president ordered federal aid be provided to help recovery efforts of state, local and tribal governments. The funding will be available to Citrus, Dixie, Hernando, Hillsborough, Leon, Levy, Pasco and Pinellas counties.

Available assistance includes:

In addition, governments and non-profits can access federal funding for emergency work and to repair facilities. People in Citrus, Dixie, Franklin, Jefferson, Lafayette, Leon, Levy, Liberty, Madison, Pasco, Pinellas, Suwannee, Taylor and Wakulla counties can access this funding.

Funding is also available for hazard mitigation.

Individuals and businesses can apply for aid beginning Thursday here. You can also call 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) or, for the hearing and speech impaired, 1-800-462-7585 (TTY). The numbers will be in operation seven days a week from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.

“Hurricane Hermine was the first hurricane to hit our state in over a decade and following the storm, I met with many businesses and families who were severely impacted. While the state immediately stepped in to provide resources and assistance to families, this funding will help our local communities rebuild,” Gov. Rick Scott said after the president signed the declaration.
