CLEARWATER, Fla. (WFLA) — Having a baby is an exciting time for any family, but many expectant moms don’t know where to turn to get the best answers to questions and concerns about labor and delivery. One Tampa Bay area hospital is filling that need.

Before little Malakai was born just 5-months ago, first-time mom Casey Nichols had a lot of questions.

“I definitely think every woman’s fear is giving birth, but I was super excited when I found out that we were expecting,” said Nichols.

Thankfully, family admission nurse Kaitlin Brennan was there to help.

Morton Plant Hospital in Clearwater offers all expectant families Brennan’s services as a family admission nurse.

“When we got here, it was more at ease. We knew where to go and what to expect,” said Nichols.

Brennan meets with the parents-to-be to answer questions, complete paperwork and make a birth plan before labor.

“It’s in a calm environment, just one-on-one, so it’s about easing those anxieties and getting them more excited about the most important day of their life,” said Brennan.

This isn’t just helpful for mothers, but for the hospital.

Completing necessary medical paperwork in advance saves labor and delivery nurses about an hour – time that can be spent focusing solely on patient needs before the new baby enters the world.

“All of nursing is beautiful, but to be a part of bringing life into this world, it’s an honor,” said Brennan.

In addition to Brennan’s services, Morton Plant Hospital continues to offer numerous classes each month for expectant parents.
