A creative new gallery is now open at the Hillsborough Community College featuring artist Bassmi Ibrahim’s meditative abstract paintings.

The Isness of Being features 18 works by Bassmi, including his highly regarded Isness series.

The world-renowned artist creates his masterpieces in his Clearwater studio. Bassmi says he’s able to mold unique pieces when he’s in a calm and serene location, like Tampa Bay.

As an Egyptian-born American artist, Bassmi was inspired by a teacher who encouraged and privately trained him for seven years, receiving his BA degree in art in 1963.

In the mid-60s, he moved to New York, immersing himself in the world of abstract art. Then, in the mid-70s, Bassmi relocated to Clearwater to engrossed himself in the study of metaphysics and homeopathy.

The spiritual depth he has explored became a touchstone for his work. Inspired by deep meditation, Bassmi began the Isness of Being series in 2005.

To avoid influencing the viewer’s conception of the works, Bassmi has simply titled these paintings with numbers.

You can enjoy the unique exhibit for yourself in Gallery 221 at the Hillsborough Community College through June 4.
