Even though she took advantage of the darkness of the night to steal two packages from a Carrollwood home just after they were delivered, the woman’s face is as clear as day on video.
Hillsborough County sheriff’s deputies want to find the so-called “porch pirate” who casually walked away with the packages containing dress shirts and a holiday gift.
“Well, this neighborhood is very safe and normally we don’t get crimes like that, so a little bit of a surprise,” said neighbor Edward Garrido.
He’s surprised someone would use the season of giving as the season of taking.
“It worries me now. I didn’t know about it before but yeah,” he said.
The neighborhood sits back from a main road and is very quiet, perhaps making it a prime target.
The woman stole the packages just after they were delivered.
The homeowner thinks she may’ve been trailing the delivery truck.
The packages were delivered at 6:36 p.m. and stolen by the suspect a short time later at 6:54 p.m.
Deputies tend to patrol neighborhoods during the holidays to try to stop thefts.
“Unfortunately with the holidays coming, Black Friday, Cyber Monday, people start ordering for the holidays and they do have more package deliveries to their residences and these things do become more frequent this time of year,” said deputy Jonathan Lord.
Two weeks ago, a man was arrested in Tampa after he was caught on camera stealing packages.
He got away with at least six, including a box of diapers, Tampa police officers said.
Deputies suggest having packages mailed to your office. You can also get an Amazon Locker, which are located at convenience stores and Whole Foods locations across the Bay area.
