TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) – A bizarre crash happened early Monday morning when two Tampa police officers tracking a stolen vehicle ended up crashing into each other.
According to the Tampa Police Department, it unfolded around 12:30 Monday morning near the intersection of Linebaugh and Central avenues, just off Interstate-275.
The two police vehicles were driving down Linebaugh while a helicopter overhead was keeping an eye on the stolen vehicle.
One police unit crashed into the side of a marked TPD cruiser. It happened when one of the cars slowed and then attempted a left turn. The other car, thinking the first car was stopped, tried to go around and hit the car that was turning. The front of one car hit the other car on the side, a police spokesman said.
The driver of the police car was treated and released from a local hospital.
Police stopped the suspect, identified as Dion Mohammed, 19, moments later. He was charged with grand theft of a motor vehicle.STORIES OTHERS ARE CLICKING ON-
