Tampa police searching for suspect after woman calls 911 to report boyfriend was shot

Tampa police are investigating a shooting that occurred Wednesday afternoon.

According to police, a woman called 911 as she was driving. She said her boyfriend had been shot.

Officers were able to locate the caller and victim, identified as Jason Botes, in the 4100 block of W. Dr. Martin Luther King Boulevard.

Officers provided first aid until Tampa Fire Rescue arrived and took the victim to St. Joseph’s Hospital in critical condition.

Detectives were able to get a description of the suspect from the victim.

During the investigation, detectives determined the shooting took place at 4605 N. Thatcher Avenue.

Police believed the suspect may still have been inside the residence and a perimeter was set up by a SWAT team.

The suspect was not found inside of the house and the SWAT team cleared the residence at 9 p.m.

Detectives are working to develop leads on the motivation for the shooting and the identity of the suspect.
