Tampa General Hospital has been forced to cancel some elective surgeries due to a problem with operating instruments.

A hospital spokesperson says emergency and life saving procedures are not impacted.

Some elective surgeries at TGH are being rescheduled because of a “processing issue” with the surgical instruments, according to the spokesperson.

TGH said the issue surfaced during a routine check on the surgical instruments when a discoloration was found on some implements.

The spokesperson says no surgeries were performed with the impacted equipment.

A later inspection found no contamination and no infectious agents on the equipment.

TGH says it is addressing the processing issue and expects that process to be completed by Monday.
