TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) – Talk about a great day to celebrate football.

Ladies took over the football field on Tuesday during training camp for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. And, they loved every minute of it.

The Women of Red initiative is in its fourth year, and nearly a thousand female fans packed the Bucs new indoor training facility.

“It’s exciting,” said Arlene Ryan-Vedhuis. “It gives you chill bumps. We’ve been through the bad times, we’ve been to the Super Bowl and we’re going back!”

Arlene and her buddies have been cheering on the Buccaneers from the very beginning, since 1975, they tell WFLA.

They love events like this.

They call themselves the “Pewter Posse.”

“You can pass it on from mother to daughter, grandmother to daughter, and it’s all ages, colors, shapes and sizes,” said Arlene. “We all appreciate football and what the Buccaneers do for our community.”

That same sentiment was heard many times during this special day. Fans love how the team gives back to the Tampa Bay area community.

“It is a family here,” said Darcie Glazer Kassewitz. “We try to promote that feeling because it’s what we truly believe and what we are.”

As the owner and president of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Foundation and Glazer Family Foundation, she tells WFLA this day is all heart, all about championing women who loves sports.

“Almost half of the fans in the NFL are women. It’s just very important for me to reach out and tell them that we appreciate them,” said Glazer Kassewitz.

Debbie Kemp told us, “More and more women are following sports in general. The audience for women keeps expanding and expanding!”
