Police are investigating the vandalism of several tombs at a historic cemetery in Tampa.

Officers say 18 tombs and statues were damaged in the Centro Espanol de Tampa cemetery on East 21st Avenue. The cemetery was established in 1904 and has about 1,600 graves.

Investigators believe the suspect or suspects went into the cemetery within the last two or three days and used a heavy object, possibly a sledgehammer, to damage the tombs.

Detectives are asking anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers.
