A Hillsborough County Animal shelter was vandalized and broken into Saturday night.
The Raining Cats and Dogs Shelter and Sanctuary says its mission is to provide temporary and forever homes for dogs and cats from Hillsborough and Polk Counties.
On Saturday night, the shelter says someone broke into the facility.
The shelter’s Facebook page posts describe what happened, saying someone took a lawn mower, an AC unit and a chain-link dog kennel among other things
This is a picture of a box that contained the stolen chain-link kennel. If you see this being sold online you are asked to call the Plant City Police Department.
In order to get into the shelter, the owners say the thieves cut the power and tilted the security lights down, so they wouldn’t be seen.
It doesn’t appear that the thieves were targeting any of the animals. However – an AC window unit in the room where the kittens stay was stolen and one kitten got out. Potter, a cross eyed Russian Blue cat, escaped. He didn’t go far. Potter hid under a porch and was able to be coaxed out and is back in the shelter.
The shelter says it will take a while to raise the money it needs to replace what was stolen. If you want to donate to Raining Cats and Dogs Shelter and Sanctuary click here.
