TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — A man was charged with driving under the influence Monday after Tampa police said he hit a pedestrian on Adamo Drive.
The Tampa Police Department said 23-year-old Mical Scott was driving his 2015 Chevrolet pickup truck east on Adamo Drive around 2:50 a.m. At the same time, 24-year-old Pannel Datilus was walking in the middle of the road.
Police said Scott hit Datilus with his truck, propelling him forward on Adamo Drive.
Tampa Fire Rescue and Tampa police officers performed CPR on Datilus, but he later died at a hospital due to his injuries.
Investigators said they believe speed may have been a factor in the crash. The truck’s airbags fully deployed and it had heavy front-end damage.
The truck was impounded and will be processed for evidence.
Scott was arrested for DUI and taken to the Falkenburg Road Jail. The crash remains under investigation and additional charges against Scott are possible.
The eastbound lanes of Adamo Drive were shut down for four hours while officers investigated the crash. They reopened around 7 a.m.
