The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office arrested a man in connection with the homicide of his estranged wife on Wednesday.
Lenton Chambers, 35, was arrested in the killing of Evelyn Chambers.
At the time of the homicide, the sheriff’s office was in the process of serving an Order of Protection signed by a judge.
The Chambers were in the process of getting divorced and had a series of domestic violence incidents prior to the murder.
One of those incidents was on April 27. Chambers allegedly held a gun to his wife’s head at 3 a.m. after being allowed inside the home by her children, accusing her of having compromising photos of herself on her phone.
He told her he wasn’t going to shoot her, but only wanted to scare her. He left the home with his wife’s phone.
Later that day, Chambers arrived back at the home, looking for another man in the house. His wife tried to retrieve her phone and a struggle ensued, where she was kicked twice in the head.
Chambers was arrested and charged with aggravated assault on April 28.
A court issued an injunction against Chambers in August, preventing contact with Evelyn.
They attempted to serve it on Aug. 29, but could not find Chambers.
On that same day, Evelyn called 911, saying she believed Chambers attempted to disable her car and that he had followed her that day.
She told a responding deputy her husband knew there was an injunction against him, even though it had not officially been served.
Deputies tried to serve the injunction again on Sept. 4 but Chambers was not located.
The sheriff’s office says Lenton Chambers killed his wife three days later.
Chambers is charged with first degree murder with a firearm, felon in possession of a firearm and shooting into an occupied dwelling.
