UPDATE | Authorities have identified the man seen in the video as 23-year-old Roger Ocasio Colon. According to a news release, Colon was arrested Wednesday on charges of Aggravated Assault with a Firearm (x2), Shooting into an Occupied Vehicle, Carrying Concealed Weapon, Driving While License Suspended and booked into the Orient Road Jail. No further details are immediately available.
ORIGINAL STORY | Surveillance video shows two teens simply shopping and walking around the Westfield Shopping Center in Brandon. They were doing nothing wrong. At the same time, another couple can be seen walking through the mall. They were also shopping, but deputies say their intentions were far more sinister.
They weren’t looking for clothes or a new pair of shoes—they were shopping for victims.
Cameras were rolling when the couple followed the teenagers out of the mall and to a nearby neighborhood on Wednesday morning. Shoppers walking by had no clue what was happening and neither did the victims.
When the teens got to a home on Lausberg Place in Valrico, a man got out of his car and shot at the passenger side door of their vehicle. Fortunately, neither teen was hurt and they were able to get away from the two suspects, who later fled the scene.
Now deputies are shopping for them. The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office released surveillance video from the mall, hoping someone will recognize them and give investigators the tip they need.
“My first emotion was panic because she was on the phone with the detective and my other daughter called me and said she had been shot at,” said Daniel Johnson, the father of the 16-year-old victim.
Johnson admitted he’s been spending time at the mall, seeing if he spots the gunman.
“Hoping like hell that I find them. I want the police to find them, but I want to find them. I come from a different time.”
They also released the following descriptions for the two suspects:
1. Hispanic male, 5’10”, 180 lbs., approximately 25 years of age, thin build, tattoos on left arm, dark hair that is slick on top and shaved on sides. Last seen wearing black pants and a gray t-shirt.
2. Black female, 5’5″, 130-150 lbs., 25-35 years of age, short braid/dread hairstyle. Last seen wearing a red t-shirt with graphics on front.
Investigators are hopeful a tip will lead to an arrest. So the next time those two are shopping, it will be for a bail bondsman and an attorney.
