TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — A six-figure salary might seem high to some but after paying rent, taxes and groceries, it may not buy what it used to.
GOBankingRates looked at how far a six-figure salary would go in America’s 50 largest cities. The study was based on national expenditure costs, population, rental costs and more.
Tampa ranked as the 22nd most expensive city in the U.S.
According to the study, Tampa residents who make $100,000 bring home about $78,089 in net income after taxes.

According to GOBankingRates, the most expensive city in Florida is Miami. The study showed that Tampa residents keep around $10,000 more than Miami residents after basic expenses.

The cheapest Florida city on GOBankingRates list was Jacksonville. Residents in Jacksonville pocket almost $34,000 at the end of the year if they make $100,000, the study showed.

GOBankingRates said the 10 most expensive U.S. cities are New York; San Francisco; San Jose, California; San Diego; Boston; Oakland, California; Los Angeles; Washington; Miami and Long Beach, California.
New York and San Francisco are the only two cities that will leave you in the “red” if you make $100,000.
The least expensive cities in America are Memphis, Tennessee; El Paso, Texas; San Antonio; Tulsa, Oklahoma; Oklahoma City; Wichita, Kansas; Houston; Tucson, Arizona; Jacksonville, Florida and Indianapolis. Memphis took the No. 1 spot as the least expensive city on the list.
