TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — The evacuation order issued for Zone B in Hillsborough County is now mandatory as Hurricane Ian approaches the area, officials said Tuesday.
Hillsborough County Emergency officials had issued a mandatory evacuation for Zone A, and a voluntary evacuation for Zone B on Monday.
The order for Zone A took effect at 2 p.m. Monday.
On Tuesday morning, officials said the evacuation order had been amended to make evacuations in Zone B mandatory.
The order will begin at 12 p.m. Tuesday, and affects about 90,000 additional residents.
All residents in living in Zone A and B, and mobile and manufactured homes must be evacuated by 9 p.m. Tuesday.
The orders affect about 390,000 residents in total, officials said.
The administrator said the evacuation shelters are a last resort and are uncomfortable and crowded. She recommended that residents seek shelter with someone that lives at least 20 miles inland.

The special needs shelters are only for those with medical issues who require electrical help or those with mental issues that cannot be addressed in a general population shelter.
Those with pets must bring one sturdy carrier for each pet that will allow the animals to stand up and move around along with a leash. They should also have enough pet supplies to last seven days.
Sheriff Chad Chronister said there will additional police presence to help protect people’s homes and belongings. The sheriff urged people to take the evacuation seriously.
“We can place anything in life, but we can’t replace a life,” he said.
Chronister also announced evictions have been suspended for the week to help protect residents during the hurricane.
The county has taken steps to mitigate Ian’s impact so far and support emergency operations, including closing all county buildings.
